According to Chelsea pundit Pat Nevin, Tiemoue Bakayoko proved Chelsea were right to sell Nemanja Matic to Manchester United with his performance on Sunday.

Ex-Blues winger Pat Nevin, who reckons Bakayoko dominated Matic in Chelsea’s 1-0 win over United. Chelsea paid £40m to sign Bakayoko from Monaco over the summer before selling Matic to United.

The Frenchman impressed at Stamford Bridge at the weekend, performing well against United’s in-form midfielder Matic. And Nevin believes Bakayoko proved he can be a star for the future in west London.

He said: “In the midst of storming performances from everyone else in the side, I was also intrigued by Bakayoko’s contribution.
“He did give the ball away more than was comfortable and he got booked again, but we could see in that performance a power and energy that could well become an unstoppable force in the months and years to come.

“There were many who questioned the release of Matic to United and I understand their point, but in reality having watched them face up against each other I think the younger man in blue (including the hair) clearly won the battle on the day and there is a very good chance he is the man for the future.
“His breaking into the box from deep was extraordinary, leaving everyone else in his wake and although he didn’t finish that well, the important thing is he got himself into those incredible positions.
“In fact he probably got into more scoring positions than any other player on the field on the day.”

Bakayoko is now on international duty with France and preparing for their upcoming friendlies against Wales and Germany.

He will then return to Chelsea for their Premier League clash at West Brom on November 18.
