Boost for Chelsea as Barcelona release statement on Adrien Rabiot

Barcelona have denied that they have reached an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot.

The 23-year-old is free to speak to discuss offers for the summer from January 1 as his contract expires in the summer of 2019.
In order to rebuff claims that they had made an illegal approach, the Catalans have gone public to dismiss claims the player has already signed a deal to join them.
Meanwhile coach Maurizio Sarri has spoken about the need to add another robust midfielder to his squad in order to give his system the balance it needs to function properly.
Rabiot is a strapping all-rounder and capable of driving forward in possession or sitting back to play a more defensive role and he could be well-suited to the task of acting as back up to N'Golo Kante or playing alongside his compatriot in front of Jorginho.
In their statement, Barcelona dismissed reports that they already have a deal with Rabiot:
"Before the news appeared in France, FC Barcelona states that it has not breached any regulations regarding the signing of PSG players.
"The only contacts were carried out in the month of August and now a week ago. In both cases, contacts were made with PSG’s sporting officials to show the interest of FC Barcelona in the player Adrien Rabiot.
"FC Barcelona has always wanted to work from maximum transparency with PSG and with any other club.
"FC Barcelona denies the existence of any kind of agreement with PSG player Adrien Rabiot."
There is said to be bad blood between Barcelona and the Parisians after the Ligue 1 champions activated Neymar's release clause in 2017 to become the most expensive footballer in the history of the game.
