Chelsea pull out of Gonzalo Higuain race

Maurizio Sarri has been eyeing Higuain for a while now as he looks to bolster his attacking options for the second half of the season.

The duo previously worked with each other at Napoli for the 2015/16 campaign, where the Argentine bagged 38 goals in 42 games, which is still his best ever season.

But according to Goal, the Blues will now not be signing Higuain in January despite recent reports suggesting otherwise.

The reason being is down to the complexities of the deal, with the 31-year-old currently on loan at Milan from Juventus, making a potential deal difficult to conclude with two other clubs involved.

The Blues are now looking elsewhere to enhance their front line, with Higuain set to remain at the Italian club for at least the rest of the season.

While it’s unsure exactly who else is being considered, West Ham’s Marko Arnautovic is being considered as alternative attacking option along with Callum Wilson.

Chelsea’s next fixture is against Nottingham Forest on Saturday in the FA Cup before a League Cup semi-final against Spurs on Tuesday.
