Portuguese coach almost became Chelsea's boss. Here's why

Chelsea almost appointed Portuguese boss Vitor Pereira before deciding on Frank Lampard, The Sun claim.

Vitor Pereira almost won Frank Lampard's place at Chelsea!

Blues legend Lampard is set to return to Stamford Bridge as manager, after an enticing maiden season with Derby County.

The Sun claim he was on a two-man shortlist with Pereira, who won titles in Portugal with Porto and is now at Chinese club Shanghai SIPG.

Chelsea are said to have considered appointing him before choosing Lampard because of the former England midfielder’s past association with the club.

Vitor Pereira, 50, has won seven trophies as manager. He won four with Porto; 2x Portuguese champion and 2x Portuguese super cup winner.

He also won two in Greece with Olympiacos and one with Chinese Shanghai SIPG.
