Roman Abramovich makes promise to Frank Lampard over Chelsea job

The Chelsea board have promised to give Frank Lampard time due to ‘unique’ situation at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea board have promised incoming manager Frank an additional season, due to ‘unique’ situation at Stamford Bridge
Chelsea will assure Frank Lampard that he has at least one season to prove himself at Stamford Bridge given the ‘unique’ situation the club faces in the transfer market.

The Blues are currently serving a two-window transfer ban imposed by FIFA and Lampard will not be able to make his own signings if, he takes over at Stamford Bridge.

The 41-year-old is understandably keen on returning to his former club, however, having just lost Eden Hazard, Lampard is concerned about the task facing him at Stamford Bridge and wishes not to tarnish his reputation with the fans.

But the Telegraph claims Lampard will be told he will be given time and barring a huge downturn fortunes he will be given at least one full season at the helm, after signing a three-year deal.

Chelsea are content to pay £4m in compensation to Derby for Lampard given they received £5m from Juventus’ appointment of Maurizio Sarri. Jody Morris is likely to join Lampard as assistant coach once he makes the move but it remains to be seen whether Gianfranco Zola is kept on. The Italian served under Sarri but his role could be reduced given Morris’ presence.
